If daylight means that people need stories, does this mean that people are right to be materialists?

Daylight might mean that people need stories, as there is no sanity of going through 10,000 days without any narrative; as a result of this, does this mean that people are inevitably right to be materialists, as materialism is success/failure, and stories are about success/failure?
