meta- prisoner's dilemma 《thought experiments》

A new technology is invented that allows a prisoner's sentence experience to be compressed and uploaded to their brain all at once. Would it be ethical to test it on a prisoner with several life sentences without consent if you reduced the sentence to the rest of their natural life and guaranteed release afterwards whether or not it worked?
What if it changed the brain directly to the state it would have been in if the entire sentence was served, with no experience of the time passing?
