Atlanta Shootings: Hate or Sex

Let’s suppose, as a mind experiment, that the following is true regarding the Atlanta shootings that resulted in 8 dead Asian Americans and the arrest of the alleged perpetrator:
Robert Aaron Long had a fetish that young Asian women would perform sex acts for him at massage parlors. This perp had become ashamed of himself because of this fetish—so ashamed that he would murder masseuses in order to rid himself of his ungodly sexual addiction.
The legal definition of a hate crime to be used for this thread:

Do you suppose that Long committed a racial hate crime or a sexual hate crime?
For purposes of discussion, let’s assume that either sex or hste can be a distinct reason of its own.

In other words, do you think his motivation was based on ethnicity, gender or occupation as a masseuse who performs sex acts?

Bear in mind, his fetish has a racial component. There in lies the rub, so to speak.

He murdered.
He killed without just cause.
That's it, that's all.

Using the wrong pronoun is considered a hate crime these days.

Did he do it more for racial reasons or more because of shame about his sex addiction?

Now that I reflect on it again, probably not.

hate crime isn't a crime you can commit unless you actually commit a crime. you have to commit the crime and its then decided if charges of hate would be added to it. kind of like the difference between robbery and armed robbery. its not against the law to be armed in many cases, but armed robbery brings bigger penalties.
thing is many try to turn the expressing of "i don't like you for what ever reason i want" into hate crimes.

The way I have seen it, some people must change everything, even what isn’t broken. This can be seen as an innate urge to improve since it's so common. However, improve by what standard? It’s a personal standard of taste if personalizing something, say a house. However, that personal subjective measure that justifies change extends to other actions. It’s a human tendency to try and change the world according to one’s own tastes.
Quite often, effected change becomes a corruption. It gets excused with claims of being “unintended.”
It happens to language, too.
When both murder and traditional pronouns are called hate, then the word “hate” has been corrupted.
Add it to the list.

With life as the measure of what matters ...
The root question is, does he know what he did? Inferring anything else serves an agenda of some sort, including punishment, which isn’t necessarily negative since people have an urge to understand why people have to murder each other, and put a stop to it.
Even if the killer says why he did it, that can't be believed.
Folks often are unaware to the extent that they do things without really knowing why.

no, its about power and influence and getting it at any means. the rich and powerful love to have the masses serve their purposes, but that's human nature, in which the individuals that make up the masses seek to have there little worlds do the same when opportunity presents itself.
its easy for those who are powerless to say they don't do what the powerful do. but given the same opportunity as the powerful, they would do the same.
and what you're saying, is whitewashing what's really there.

Do the same and worse, e.g., Polish folks back you know when.

Well, that's how Tom Sawyer transcended tedium, not to say that this is tedious or apologist.
Give 'em hell!

Assumption not valid.
Since you have characterised his "fetish", it is clear that it is based on cultural definitions of race, and that then clearly makes this crime a racist attack.
The loon clearly thinks women of Asian origin are of a lesser kind than women of other types. He is a racist to the core.
