Dark hardware, that which is indistinguishably complex to it's users and even in some respects to it's creators, removes the possibility of direct accountability and thereby renders responsibility a useless idea. And without direct accountability there can be no ethics.

It would be a matter of predictability. If one can predict that some device one is using will have a particular outcome, whether one knows how it works or not, then one would be morally responsible for employing that device.
If the device isn't predictable, and there's reason to believe as much, then one would still be morally culpable for negligence if something bad happens due to the device.
