Since the 1990’s there has been a significant upswing in the number of cases of peanut allergy as well as cases of asthma.

The relatively abrupt widespread presence of these problems led to the belief, initially, that the increases were due to over-reporting and over-diagnosis rather than a true increase in the presence of these entities.

Is there an upswing in the incidence of schizophrenia, I wonder.

Schizophrenia is a complex disease, one that is not easily diagnosed. Among many symptoms stand delusions and disorganized thinking.

Judging only from a layman’s point of view, I am beginning to think that conspiracy theories entail delusional and disorganized thinking.

What’s your opinion on the prevalence of schizophrenia, especially in relation to conspiracy theories?

It takes an especially low snake to weaponize schizophrenia by applying the label to political opponents.

I remember talking to a conspiracy theorist who was upset when he learned that the US had been planning the invasion of Iraq before 9/11 ever happened. He thought that proved that the WTC was an inside job just to get into Iraq. I had to explain to him that it's normal for Pentagon officials to plan ahead for just about all military contingencies even during peacetime. For example, before the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US had "War Plan Orange" in planning since the late 1920s, which was basically a plan of attack against the Japanese in the event of a war. (Of course, they didn't plan to get all their battleships knocked out of service before hand.) But they also had plans against Britain, Germany, France and just about any other possible belligerent. People don't know so sometimes they jump to the wrong conclusions.

I am not aware of any conspiracy theories specifically related to schizophrenia, nor any specific evidence of a surge in incidence.
This makes me puzzled about the meaning and purpose of the thread.

Allergies as well as poor innume systems generally are clearly linked to a surge in elective Ceasarian Section, and the proliferation of premature birth successes.

There is no conspiracy theories here but clear scientifically understood phenomena.

Yes, schizophrenia is a disease, but can a conspiracy theory be a symptom?

Schizophrenics are extreme in being delusional and they are not functional depending on the level of disease.

Schizophrenics are extreme in being delusional and they are not functional depending on the level of disease.

If functionality depends on the level of disease, wouldn’t it follow naturally that there are levels of functionality?
