Hegel seems to think things progress where i see them as just changing, in some areas into a mode seen before in history and other times forward to new paradigms.
For example, he thinks freedom spreads and widens but i doubt it does in comminist china.
What do you reckon ?

he thinks freedom spreads and widens
it does: unevenly, and not without a lot of three steps forward, two steps back
barbarity becomes civilization which goes barbarous (but is a little less so for havin' extended out of a civilization)
it's a meanderin' trail, with plenty of swtichbacks, from the foot to the peak
