Amoral Morality
Julian Baggini in his latest books seems to be making the best of Christian ethics, as he interprets them.
But to say that Jesus of Nazareth was in a society in which only men could divorce, with women “disadvantaged by divorce and so needed to be protected against it, not given the right to initiate it” will hardly do. There may have been instances when divorce was needed for female protection, and they could also get economic security.
There also seems to be a perception today that ethics are binary, and liberalism is the alternative to a servile society.
Indeed, that amorality is the modern morality.
That a person do as he wills as long as society and medicine relieves of all ill effects of bodily kind.
He may eat all day as long as food does not make him obese.
Sleep all day if he is not impelled to work.
Have sex of all and any kind as long as there are no ill effects from disease or procreation.
Can be any sex chosen by him or her, and marry all or any by whimsical choice.
Has ownership of his body to his or her own will and can have a foetus aborted on demand, with no rights for the unborn.
Has the right to decide how to behave in an epidemic, as a free person, without obligation to others or society.
Can destroy the natural world as being inferior or secondary to the desires of human beings.
Has a universal right to live in a universal society of autonomous individuals with a right to live anywhere in any nation or society.
May live without mental or physical effort in a world served by robots.
The list of such rights must be endless.
