The modern instinctual or unconscious view is that the world is historical and evolutionary and that we are at the top of history and evolution. The equal peak of an eternity equidistant to all the ages is suppressed and excluded. The Greeks of antiquity are denied the most important and most glamorous of all things since the discovery or invention of domesticated fire, namely the technological advantages of the current epoch. Thus, they are lower in the scheme of time. All ages suffer in the view of this age. All are sub-democratic and even the ancient democracy and surely the ubiquitous slave countries with their hate of the many-colors and raising up of the supremacist "fatherlands." This age, most of all, is subtlety superior, not to say supreme, in its knowledge of the great variety of the former time and the former cultures. Nay, not merely knowledge of, but honoring of the former times. The cultures, each wonderful and horrible according to their own face and the typical sorts of dust to be found upon it, are only now appreciated and respected amidst our great contemporary absolute rainbow ultra-culture.
