Philosophy Now --- If a man (subject) treats a woman (object) as if she is another man (subject), he is dead in the water. She will run rings around him. Luce Irigaray wants to have her cake and eat it at the same time. She wants to disarm men of their knowledge of the differences between men and women, while at the same time reserving to herself the right to know all the differences that advantage women. In other words, “Men, stop thinking -- allow us women to do all your thinking for you.” It is a mistake for men to listen to such nonsense. As with Jacques Derrida, all she is trying to do is tie men’s brains up in knots so she can bully them into silence.
