Scientism

I've noticed the lack of scientistics (adherents of Scientism, that is reductionist at core) on this forum. Why is it that Scientism is frown upon here?
I've also noticed that a lot of people don't like scientism, not because it lacks arguments/reasoning, but because at the core of anti-scientism lies some belief in the divine, superstitious.
I think that the poor reputation of scientism here is highly biased due to a lot of panpsychism-deity-believers.

Seems to me most everyone here has great respect for science (as tool, as method).
Scientism, as religion (and that's exactly what it is): not so much.

When the voice on the GPS says turn left, the scientismist is the one who drives into the lake, rationalizing that in the dark things can get confusing but gosh darn it at least we did something.

Scientism is the belief that the methods of science and the worldview of science are obviously correct over all other methods and worldviews.
Sounds like goddamned religion to me.

Belief is not religion.
Definition of religion:
Religion (from O.Fr. religion religious community, from L. religionem (nom. religio) "respect for what is sacred, reverence for the gods, sense of right, moral obligation, sanctity"
You can have belief in many things. Believe you are right, believe in yourself or believe the witnesses in court.
Religion is specifically talking about belief in deities/supernatural.

For you this is for Science.
You're a religionist.
This is okay...just be honest with yourself about it.

The difference between science and religion is the lack of deities or the supernatural.
Science is not about any deities.
Thus you cannot say scientism is religion.

Ah, but we're not talkin' about science and religion; we're talkin' about scientism as religion.
In context: science is your god.
Really, what's the difference between, say, Allah-belief and Science-belief?
In both cases: the god is the source of all, is appealed to and defered to in all matters, is the armor and the comfort, is the justification.
Again: it's okay to be religious, Philo...just be honest about your faith.

I used to say...
On my good days, I'm agnostic; on my bad days, I'm an atheist.
Nowadays: I blame it all on Crom.
Pretty much, when it comes to God, I'm an apatheist or ignostic or disinterested potential deist or...*shrug*
I'm not anti-god or -religion, but none of that's ever captured my interest so I don't worry about it much.
You could say I'm too dull in the head to be bothered by existential questions.

At least you seem to believe that...
Neither agnosticism not atheism support that belief.
So presumably you must have some other religious beliefs too....
Don't be shy.. it's OK to have a religion....

I believe that broccoli is good for most people. I am a pentacostal broccolist.
I also believe that cauliflower is good for most people. I am an evangelist cauliflowerist.
I also believe that the scientific method is a better system for understanding reality than the guesswork of hopeful, fearful, power-hungry and vengeful theists. I am an restorational scientism-ist.
I believe in love but I am not Huey Lewis, just a episcopal lovist.
Although some may say that belief and religiosity can be parsed.

Not really... your cromism is nothing more than wishful thinking and fantasy...
Science or scientism is based on logic and reality...
But it is your choice...
