Rules
In the current rancorous row over the anti-value of racism.
It is forgotten that Ethics is about Values.
Practical rules cannot define a value. they merely provide fashionable approximations.
For Christians it may be appropriate to mention that he talked more about values than rules.

"Ethics" is too limited.
To ensure good human acts we need to establish a Framework and System of Morality and System.

Morality deals with the Pure principles and laws.
Ethics deals with the application of pure principles to practices.

Both morality and ethics must complement each other within the system.
We use values to control and manage the whole system to continually optimize good human acts.

Adhering to a rule that interferes with living a life of altruism is anathema to me. Blind adherence to rules can be a dangerous thing.

Politics is replacing religion in many ways and it operates not in values but in rules. Values only work when we both agree on the same thing and we both think it's important, politics is less about convincing others and more about controlling them.
