How useful is the internet to you?

I would say it's useful for me.
There are numerous possible uses for the internet which is very often in the news. A side question would be is it getting more useful or has it plateau'd?
So what do you have to say?

I'd have to say you don't know how to spell.
Other than helping me to discover that, the Internet has not been very, very, very useful to me.

You finally caught me. Either that or I coined a new word.

On a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is useless and 10 is very useful, I'd say 5.000

It's an amazing thing and is extremely essential for search of information that would take forever to look for in a library.
You can meet people and likeminded ones from around the world.
Instantly up/dl information, pictures, music etc.

I do think it's very useful, but I also think it's very harmful, in a lot of ways. Social media, in particular, has had a mostly negative impact on the way we act and think about things. As one small example, people have largely shifted from giving out their phone number, to online messaging; You'd think that make social interactions easier because something like a Facebook profile is more personable than a phone number, but online messaging is actually far less likely to lead to real life interaction - even within the same desire for both people to have a real life interaction with each other. It's creating some serious barrier issues.

The internet is f'ing awesome. I don't have to go to a video shop if I want a film or TV series to watch. I can learn about just about anything. I don't have to put up with broadcast TV which here in Oz can be pretty lame at best.
I remember when I first used the internet around 1992. Back then if you wanted to find a topic to learn about, the search would at best just throw a bunch of books up that you could buy.
Now with WIKIP its all available. Pretty much every year I donate $25 to the site to keep the ads away, and because I find it an amazing resource, it was the type of site I had hoped for from the internet at the outset.
I tend to keep away from social media, I don't care much about people telling me they had meatballs to eat at IKEA, or that they've done their daily chores and whether they like McDonalds etc...chumps.

I think all that's happening is people's true natures are being expressed more freely - and it's none to pretty!

I was referring to the idea that it's making us more socially awkward. I'm sure it is making us more barbarous as well, but that's not what I had in mind.

I've always been socially awkward and prefer expressing myself in writing so it's a positive for me if others are following suit
As for the barbarity, I think that has more to do with the competition, aggravation and lifestyle threats associated with overpopulation. Thin us humans out by 50% and numerous pressing problems today, both locally and globally, would simply evaporate.

Well maybe so, but don't you think it's worsening that condition? If a situation rolls around where you do want or need to socialize with people in real life, doesn't it make it harder to do that?

...Do you have a specific '50%' in mind, or just a totally indiscriminate 50% reduction in the human population? If it's the latter, I actually don't see how that would fix any social problems.

No loss, I'm older and done most of my socialising already. It's not a condition, it's a trait. Whatever, introversion IMO is a healthier state than extroversion in many ways. I think people should receive treatment for human dependency and fear of facing their own minds alone.
If anything, online blabbing makes it easier for me to chat. I am more confident because I now have a clearer measure of my mind and those of others, and how they fit and don't fit.
The extroverted often worry about the introverted. Why? Because they themselves are upset, rather than comfortable, alone. I reckon the main reason why singletons don't live as long as those in a relationships is because when they have major heart event or stroke they simply die, rather than being found and revived, often to continue existence but without "life". There is zero problem at my end as long as my health is okay. The problems perhaps lie more in those who feel a terrible void when not with other people.

Ideally 50% of every overcrowded city, doesn't matter which ones in terms of reducing pressure.
Check your history and what happened in Europe after the Black Death. People thrive when crowds disperse.
