Necessary and sufficient conditions

I hope I'm posting in the right thread otherwise please tell me
I'm new to philosophy but have always had an interest therefore I have started reading up on it and I have come up to Necessary and sufficient conditions. To better wrap my head around it i thought it would be a good idea to use it on a less abstract concept in this case I have chosen school.
I find it hard though can anyone please point me in the right direction or at least tell me if that is a bad concept to use in this instance.
