Wiki has a board layout for descriptive notation; explains how the board squares are named.
See 'Descriptive notation' - also gives Spanish version.
You can probably work it out from there?
I expect someone else knows an easier way...

Yes that is correct, the white Pawn to the 4th square in front of the white king.
It's descriptive notation, and it's normal to me, the question is what is normal to you?

Doc, do you have a traditional board ? If so, why can't you add the letter and number coordinates alongside?

I couldn´t have moved the urchin on d7 two spaces because then he would have been taken free of charge. It´s important to place one´s forces in the center.

Oh My! Another S H fan. Have you ever seen Tom Baker as Sherlock Holmes in "The Hound of the Baskervilles? Baker was excellent but the rest of the cast wasn't very good. Sometimes they looked and sounded like they were reading their lines from cue cards.
