VR - Virtual Reality World

I bought a HTC VIVE headset back in June - the thing would barely work for more than 20 mins. They required i test on another PC - so i had to find a friend with a high spec PC and willing to bring it over. About a month ago we did the test on his machine - same issue. I returned the HMD (head mount display) and receive a replacement - same issue. Then i tried a short HDMI cable from the HMD to the breakout box - worked a treat. So they sent me a replacement cable - its about 5m long.
VR is amazing - especially the VIVE where you are tracked around the entire room and the hand controllers are also tracked - its not cheap but holy crap - to me its worth the expense - if anyone has one, the game Call of the Starseed is a must - the closest thing to a AAA game for it thus far - just awesome!

Yes there are a few ideas that i know of that can dispose of the snorkel mask for the experience - but i just aint that patient!

From what I gather, the main objection to the headset is motion sickness. I would suggest for anyone planning to do VR is to sample it first before plunging in.
With this field I see articles on a daily basis making announcements. Other terms you should get familiar with are augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR).
I'm glad you have an exciting experience.

Ive never experienced motion sickness - that was a major thing in the earlier dev kits. Most of the movement within the VR world is like 'porting' to the next location. I prefer 'gliding' to the point - Astral Domine does this and it can make you lose balance while moving and jumping off cliffs...so would expect some to feel motion sickness there.
Its gonna have to take big moves in augmented reality for me to be interested - in other words - the processing unit is going have to be able to identify EVERYTHING in my surroundings.

I think you are simplifying a comparison, one that really shouldnt be there as they are very distinctively different in what they can achieve.
VR is already here. AR has a long way to go before it would warrant much interest from me.

They're similar like a motorbike compared to a car. The can provide a service but do it in a different manner.

I have watched plenty of videos on the pending technology, but how you can manage to suggest 'one' is somehow 'better' than the other is beyond me.
