Crazy-ass Attention-seekers

What is it that makes a few people here create tons of threads that do nothing more than turn themselves into a target for ongoing abuse because of the inane nature of their topics and their self-absorbed behavior, as well as their inability to respond to other posters that question them about the topic and the things they say?

It’s like they’re just throwing stuff at a wall to see if it sticks -OR- they are incapable (like a child) of having a thought without broadcasting it. And they’d rather have abuse than be ignored? Where is the dignity and honor and responsibility for ones behavior/contributions? Where is the courage to stop acting like a self-absorbed child among other adults?

It’s hard to understand how truly intelligent and well-balanced adults could behave in such a way... which suggests all kinds of other disturbing conclusions. Why are these people running around loose in society?

Does anyone have any insights?

It's about time somebody brought that up, Lacewing, and I don't think we have to name names since they know all too well who they are!

Might you have any further insight on why they do it (without naming names of course)?

What is it that makes a few people here create tons of threads ...

Might it be for the attention you cannot resist giving to them? What, then, would make them stop, I wonder? ...

Most people here are not very bright and will by their talkative nature spam the forum with useless posts.

There's a certain allergedly highly educated person, who once worked on a university who has a sick need of attention, but only selectivly answers questions. I think he have had a massive stroke at some point, since he can't make the distinction between ethical/morally good, useful good, and practical good and mix them all up in the same "good".

I've been on most philosphy fora, but this forum is by far the worst with the least amount of intelligent people, but on the flip side it has freedom of speech.

Sure, I'm to blame for feeding them when I do... but I can't take all the credit for the situation :) . I ignore them plenty. The fact that they get any scraps of attention for being as absurd as they are, isn't a logical or honorable reason for being/remaining that way. Seems strange that they're satisfied with that... especially considering how much clarifying feedback they get.

Oh please. They have the most popular threads. Frankly I'm more irritated by the mis-use of the word 'ass'.

If you don't ignore them completely, you cannot claim to ignore them at all. That's how ignoring works.

My advice is either try harder not to reward the attention-seeking behaviour you complain of, or stop complaining.

Here's another question: What makes people like you have to be so high and mighty when someone steps up to call out crazy behavior? Why attack the person creating a post that has offered thoughtful and honest considerations? Am I just the easiest target you can spot in order to make yourself suddenly seem superior and smarter somehow?

Great BOB comes on right on cue. He immediately recognises him self as an attention seekers and moves in to distance himself from the appellation.

I didn't know he had such a grasp on irony.

He's reacting, not thinking.
The irony is utterly missed on him.

Have I really made myself seem superior and smarter to you? Well, that sure was easy!

You must be very proud of your delusion. 8)

There is a condition that has been labeled as the "Martyr Complex", where a person will post something and then revel in the abuse that follows. I'm not sure what the exact psychological condition is called, but the "Martyr Complex" is close enough. It seems to be common on forums and is possibly just another form of trolling. Sometimes responding just feeds the condition, and sometimes a lack of response is read as support that just feeds the delusion.
