i got into an argument recently about the nature of the Lawful Good alignment

if someone believes well being of others is very important, and obeying laws (at least just laws) is important, they are lawful good, right?

but what if someone thinks that what is really important is human (and dwarven and elven and halfling etc) wellbeing, and laws are not intrinsically good - but it so happens that they are very useful in promoting the good - is this person Lawful Good or Neutral Good?

Generally ethics and the law are visually represented by a Venn diagram. The lawful may or may not be good, and the good may or may not be lawful. There is considerable overlap, but also considerable differences.
