Well if you don't even think it deserves a capital A you're not exactly setting a positive example. Are you?

Harbal,

I rarely title threads with caps...call it stylistic eccentricity.

Uwot,

An equally valid question which folks can answer in this thread, if they like.

America is ... stricken with hubris, as happens to all great empires after a while.

I prefer to call it sloppiness. If you must be eccentric couldn't you do it on Facebook or some other place where it doesn't matter?

You'd rather nitpick about 'style' than answer the question(s)...

*shrug*

...as you like.

Shrug to you, too, henry quirk. And by the way, get your name capitalised.

America is trapped in a time warp. A theocracy cannot flourish in a secular age and the US clings tenaciously to its eternal verities only because its got nothing to replace them with. They'll grow out of it, or not as the case may be, but the rest of the world has passed them by and all the US is currently demonstrating to the world is the truth of its own irrelevance. Hence Trump. He thinks he can make America great again by playing the role of the bully in the schoolyard, completely oblivious to the fact that he's making his country the laughing stock of the world.

However I love America and I love Americans and I reckon there is still hope that the US might eventually become a civilised nation. Trying to teach America anything is rather like trying to teach a teenage child. It's an uphill task educating somebody who already knows everything.

Well, maybe some other country can step up to the plate, but not likely.

What plate is there to be stepped up to? The days of empire are over, Bob, not just for the US but for any other nation which tries to chuck its weight around. We're going to have to learn to get along like grown-ups.

My follow up: how did you arrive at your opinion about America?

I don't know what to think about the US.
