This is the Zen approach: nothing is there to be done. There is nothing to do. One has just to be. Have a rest and be ordinary and be natural.

If you are a product of this strategy then I think I would rather avoid it.

Alternatively, you could choose to have a life.

Many years ago I was reading Zen, and read that all are enlightened but just don't know it, so I decided that since I was already enlightened, I would just skip all the hard work and play with my grandchildren.

Wait a minute...you said you decided. That you was just a small part of you; your entire being.

So, don't shit yourself. You are no where near the realization of zen mind.

Actually, I would say that doc's answer is fairly enlightened. He's doing exactly what you defined as Zen Mind, Bill. So why do you then have a problem with it? Good answer, doc.

"One has just to be."

Like a house plant.

No thanks.

You just have to be yourself. Not a plant's self. But I get the humour.

It seems that Bill has no comprehension of what Zen really is.

Or to be more accurate,

It seems that Bill has no comprehension.

Is it me, or has Bill changed since I came to this forum? Perhaps I've changed and see things differently now.

Bill used to post some really vulgar videos, but I think he was warned about them by the Mods, he may have been banned for a short time, I just don't remember. Now he restricts his posts to just the vulgar things he says.

Know a little bit about zen. Understand a little bit more.

Lived in an ashram.

Devoted my life to knowing thyself.

THE singularly most pivotal and important time in my life has been & still is my time of enlightenment.

...so, there's that.

Oh, by the way, vulgar exists only in you. It's the ugly part of you.

This is surprising to read, Bill... (no insult is meant here, I'm just repeating what has already been said about what you reflect with your words and actions here in the forum)... as you seem very self-absorbed with your thoughts and fairly disconnected from other people. My understanding of "knowing thyself" is to recognize such separations and limitations that exist in oneself... so that one can then be aware enough to be freed of their subconscious/subversive influence, and embrace that which is greater. From my perspective, knowing thyself is not about MORE pre-occupation with self... it's about realizing/knowing what exists within oneself that causes separation from all else.

What is your understanding?
