Are self-driving cars safer than airplanes?

I don't think comparitive stats exist for these two modes of transportation, at least not yet. And how would you compare the two anyways? My guess is that airplanes are safer.

Until cars are proven to have their computers glitch proof and hack proof, planes should be safer.
