In my opinion, no. I believe competition produces better workers and management. Without competition, people don't function as well - e.g. they get lazy and don't produce as much and their quality suffers. While you can have competition between teams, those that have the talent may feel that the less talented of their team may be unjustly compensated in comparison with themselves.

One of our children earned a chemical engineering degree from a good university program, years ago. He said they were taught to work in teams, which went against the natural inclination of many students.
The employers who hire from the school have input into what they want from the school. The members of the student project team represent various capacities as determined by their GPA’s. In completing projects the eggheads get to work with the operations types, the alphas learn to appreciate betas.
Networking grows from this and benefits a career. The training is appropriate for later management positions, where one’s success is defined by the actions of others. Employers are pleased with the results, and I can see the advantage.
