Clearly British society has been around longer and has a rich social tradition. American society though is a melting pot where people from many areas have emigrated to and contributed to.

Who says what British or American society is? This forum which implies it in its description. I think politics has a lot to do with how society is organised. Also input from scientists, the culture(s), the media, etc.
