How natural is the human brain?

Some people regard it as part of nature, others do not. Most will say it arose through evolution, but others will ask how and why did it arise through evolution? Abstract thinking seems to be limited to the human brain.
I regard the human brain one of the great mysteries, just about on a par with a miracle.
What do you think?

"How" it arose through evolution is well understood and "why" it did so is not a valid question.

Well, I think the neo-cortex is a result of evolving nature. But the level of conciousness that we owe this evolutionary step is an unintentional cruelty, making us overly self-aware, and separating us from that very nature. Other beings don't think, and dwell on existence, pathologically wondering where they'll 'll end up. We do.

Humans are just animals with complex language.
Ultimately we are a one trick pony and it has always been thus.
