I'll take your bet, VT. Ten bucks or its equivalent in your own currency to the charity of our own choice and we can take each other on trust on the matter of honouring the wager. Politics in the US is all about show business and the vaudevillean extravaganza has barely got off the ground. The Republicans are unelectable because they've been infiltrated by zealots of every stripe to an extent which neither Reagan nor Bush had to deal with and they simply haven't got enough time to purge their ranks of these fundamentalists. They will self-destruct in due course and leave the field clear for whomever the Democrats decide to run with. That may yet prove to be an interesting story because all the signs are there that the winds of change are blowing through the American body politic and business as usual may not indeed be business as usual. I suspect we may be living in interesting times where the American hoi polloi might rise up and overthrow their masters.

On the other hand I might just be a crumbling old hippy who is mistaking his hopes for his realities. However I'm dusting off all my old Bob Dylan albums just in case.

I can't believe he is leading in the polls...lol...and then doc saying he would rather have him than Hillary. ..I don't understand that. Trump is just so over the top ridiculous he makes Bush Jr look sophisticated, intelligent, and an basically an all around good guy. In fact, I would even go so far as to say, if it were between Trump and bush...I'd rather bush win again if he could. That's how dangerous Trump would be for our country if not the entire world. He's even scarier than Palin! He's fit for a straight jacket.

It won't happen, AS. Even the true puppetmasters on Wall St won't allow it and neither will the media barons who lead the sheep to the trough. The globalised world of modern economics relies on confidence and the US is still a major player on this stage. Trump is the laughing stock of the corporate world and international confidence is something which can evaporate overnight. The US economy is a very fragile house of cards indeed and none of the real powerbrokers will risk a collapse by letting such a loose cannon roll around the decks.

There's also the delicate matter of geo-politics in very sensitive regions of the world which will require highly nuanced and well researched diplomacy. Could these words "delicate","sensitive", "nuanced", "well-researched", and "diplomacy" be sensibly used as descriptors for Trump? Nobody in the world will talk to him because he's a dangerous fucking nut-job.

Not once in my life have any of these fuckers had a profound or direct effect on my ability to feed myself, clothe myself, shelter myself, so, I don't give a rat's ass which idiot, idealist, or zealot sits in the big chair...and if any of you do, then mebbe you need to re-order the contents of your head instead of lookin' to mercenary jackasses to save you.

I'm right there with ya, Leo (on all you just said).

I think Trump demonstrates how incredibly stupid a person can be despite all the money and power in the world. Just as we all are capable of demonstrating the SAME despite education, religion, position, etc. Although the Trump Show is somewhat stomach-turning, I'm actually glad it's giving us a really good in-our-face look at how idiotic we humans are being -- how shallowly we are focused -- and maybe, just maybe, such a realization might shock us into EVOLVING in some beneficial way!!! If not... well, hopefully we find entertainment in this grand explosion of life, full of madness as well as brilliance. It really is quite a show. The more seriously we take it... and the more locked in we get on any particular view... the more convinced we are that there is nothing else to see... and the less capable we become of ever being able to see beyond ourselves and our creations. Seems very twisted for "intelligent" beings.

Lacewing. Try and Imagine what the American political scene must look like from the outside looking in. The four-yearly freak show can be very entertaining because anybody with the money can play and this presents a rich fund of comedic opportunity. The US is already seen as a backward nation in most of the advanced countries of the world and with good reason. However the unholy marriage of god and Mammon is not just a fertile target for the satirists and cartoonists of the world but a cause for deep concern. A theocracy is a loose cannon and a plutocracy is structured to serve only the narrow interests of a ruling class, but when the two combine into a single dominant oligarchy the rest of the world will laugh somewhat nervously because history tells us that this story will end in tears.
