Energy: Its characteristics and boundaries

Can some really smart scientific-types here explain to me in very SIMPLE terms your understanding of energy as follows:

> Is energy just a word/concept... or is it measurable?
> If it is measurable/identifiable(?), how do we know what its boundaries are?
> Does every movement/activity create energy?
> Is everything powered by energy?
> Have our understandings of energy stayed the same or changed over time?

I’m trying to understand some things I “sense”... which I might refer to as "energy"... but I don’t know if that’s an accurate description of what it is. So I’d like to gather some answers to these questions, to see if it helps clarify things.

Thanks in advance! And I apologize if this topic has already been discussed at length... and you’re bored with it... in which case, you can ignore this one.

All these silly questions should be answered in basic shool physics ..how is it that you not know of these things?

Interesting questions. I'll give it a shot.
> Is energy just a word/concept... or is it measurable?
"Energy" is a word/concept designating measurable relationships. Measurement has practical value, but not necessarily reflect what's really there.
> If it is measurable/identifiable(?), how do we know what its boundaries are?
How do we measure relationships? Since energies interpenetrate, their measurable relationships (boundaries) are wholly dependent on our perception of them.
> Does every movement/activity create energy?
Everything is energy. Movement implies energy and energy implies movement.
> Is everything powered by energy?
See above.
> Have our understandings of energy stayed the same or changed over time?
They've changed. Remember the story of Ben Franklin flying a kite in a lightening storm? Nowadays, matter is understood in terms of highly condensed energy. That was not possible within older paradigms.

I don't remember any physics in my education, and what I THINK is not the same as knowing. How is it that YOU don't know what YOU don't know??? Hmm? Please do answer!

I also like asking questions to see what other people think they know. :D

Here's another one for you: Why do you choose to be an arrogant ass? Please do reveal the answer. If we're going to be subjected to it, I think we deserve to hear why it's the best you can come up with.

Hex is what we called in the "old days" a SNERT: Snot-nosed, egotistical, rude twit.

Me? I'm just a royal pain in the ass.

Energy is measureable. Its units are Joules (in the MKS system).

It is also Kgs * metres **2 / secs **2

> If it is measurable/identifiable(?), how do we know what its boundaries are?

Energy is Force * Distance

> Does every movement/activity create energy?

The Earths rotation around the Sun creates no energy as there is no movement in the direction of the force (gravitation).

> Is everything powered by energy?

Power is Energy per unit time and has the units of Watts which is 1 Joule per second.

.

Because very incompetent people only ruins a buisness, therefore should be fired because they serve no purpose.

There is a lovely little book by Feynman "The character of physical law" based on some lectures he gave to the general public in which he describes energy and energy conservation. Check it out, you may enjoy it!

Lacewing, Hex doesn't choose to be an ass. He was born that way. That's a reason why Scott banned him from Online Philosophy Club.

Lacewing,

Energy is measurable. How it's measured depends on what form it takes. Normally energy is neither created nor destroyed (law of conservation of energy). However it can be converted into mass and vice-versa. Is God powered by energy, if He exists? Thanks to the atom bomb, I'd say the public perception of energy has changed over time.

See folks, Philosphy Explore is a stalker and a troll, he trash talks people without contributing anything useful to the topic.

Who is "Philosphy Explore?" Can't be me unless he's misspelling again. I think Hex is saying he's a general troll since he stalks everyone and has a particular fondness for nubians. That's due to his superiority complex defect. That's the only contribution you can expect from him for this forum.

I think this thread witness about your stalking and trolling, without reason you attack me and trash talk.
