The idea of political candidates running for nomination in primary elections demonstrates the superiority of the AEP in appointing candidates directly from party headquarters. All of these other candidates have different political viewpoints, indicating that Republicans and Democrats aren't really in political parties at all, but are merely politically affiliated.
