As an Archaeologist i've been well aware the the last glacial maximum was 18kbp, and the end of the last "ice-age" was 10kbp.
I think it just means that there are massive forces way beyond our control, but human arrogance makes us think that we are the cause of every thing and so have the ability to control everything - when this is errant bullshit. It massages our ego.
