I'm for VR as I would like total escape from this world.

How about you?

I think both ideas are a bit ridiculous.

"Augmented" gives the impression that it's an improvement on the reality we currently enjoy, or not as the case may be.

"Virtual" means it appears real, but it's not really.

Isn't our reality based entirely on how things appear, to us?

I get the idea of escaping when things are bad. That is why I drink. My reality is still there when I sober up, in the case of these alternate "realities" when the computer is powered down and when the game stops. Entirely fruitless endeavours really. The only true way to escape reality is to extinguish the apparent self that exists within it.

I guess you don't like to watch tv or go to the movies then. With respect to drinking, bad habit to fall into as you don't escape which you agree with since your reality is still there when you sober up, as you said (you can't run away from yourself).

Nope, I don't really watch TV, except to revel in the misery of others via vapid talk shows and poverty porn documentaries - otherwise known as reality TV.

That's not total escape. You still have real needs.

That can only happen if you don't come back due to an error in the programming.

I think that's what happened to The Riddler in a Batman cartoon.
