Why do people like to be right ?

Some like it so much that they seem addicted to it.
They will fight and fight no matter what.
Is it necessary to be right (all the time) to preserve one´s mental drive ?

In my case I like people not to spread their nonsense to less intelligent people that would believe in such nonsense.

I suppose lots of folks bind their self-image or ego to 'being right'.
'If I'm wrong then I'm less'.
I kinda understand the view when sumthin' tangible (money, food, etc.) rides on the outcome or tussle or debate, but when there's no profit to be had or lost: meh.
I'm wrong all the time about all kinds of things (but I'm usually right when it counts...
).

Well, I like to win at poker, even if I have nothing riding on it. But in the end, is it meaningful?

The purpose of all knowledge, wisdom, and understanding is actionable certainty. The advanced version of the avoid/approach mechanism in all living creatures includes things like curiosity and to remake the world in our own image. Success is having a bespoke life and we all understand that intuitively. Being right is either an ego trip, for the less evolved Feels-based individual, or a means to a higher end.

The human brain is a machine capable of autonomous action. As such it must have built-in programs to guide its actions when you are absent. These programs are also known as directives.
The brain's prime directive is to always be right.
A few people are soul-driven, or as I'd word it, "Beon driven." They have the occasional option to override their brain's programming and acknowledge mistakes or ignorance.

Some people cannot be happy unless they are right. Single people, I guess.
