Congratulations!...

You've just been selected to enter the eternal kingdom of heaven to bathe in your God's love and glory, forever and ever, amen!

Now, considering you've found your short lifespan (max. < 2^32 seconds) somewhat tedious at times (c'mon, we all know boredom), I'm curious to hear your eternal itinerary (just for a lark, of course) to pass the time (between love and glory baths, that is) that will never end.... (are we there yet?)... No. Stop asking..........

Yes, we are there, we've been there, we started there and we will be there for eternity. There is no time in eternity, eternity is not forever. forever is a very long time, eternity just is.

If you are getting bored, you're not in eternity, you're in the other place.

I love this kind of talk!

Time is not time,
eternity is not eternity,
forever is not forever,
long is not long,
short is not short
boredom is not boredom

It makes perfect sense to our human mind!!!

(some minds, anyway)

PS. doc, what were you smoking when you wrote that?

I asked my wife, who is a novelist, to answer the OP of this thread.

This is what she came up with:

Sure you can audition for the heavenly orchestra or choir; Gabriel will select the most talented and enthusiastic. There being so many and God needing His quiet time, musicians will only be ‘on’ for brief performances. The same goes for thespians, painters, poets, cheerleaders and acrobats. In their ‘off’ centuries, these spirits will be free to do whatever they like. Travel the galaxies, riding any comet, sliding down any wormhole, cavorting in any supernova of their choice. Peruse the past of any or all heavenly bodies, from any local POV. Exchange experiences with any other consenting spirit, of any species, from anywhere in the universe, or enjoy virtual experience from a vast library of life-recordings, which includes those who didn’t make it to heaven. Witness whatever is going on in the worlds they left, or any worlds they choose to visit. The only limitations are: no intrusion on the living, no communication and no interference. And if you get tired or bored, you can put yourself in stasis for a pre-set (eg. 1000 earth years) or conditional (eg. to wake when Milky way meets Andromeda) or indefinite (until the last trump) period.

The more important question is. What were you smoking when you read and failed to understand my post. Nothing you posted is anything like what I posted, you are just demonstrating your lack of understanding.

I agree. I don't understand what you wrote and I am proud of it.

Forever is a long period of time. Eternity is not forever. There is no passing of time in eternity, there is no time in eternity. What part of that do you not understand?

Apparently you have taught her well, it seems that she believed that forever and eternity are the same thing.

doc, I was just making good-natured fun of you -- don't take it too seriously! :)

We will never see eye-to-eye on religion -- you know that!

It's just a bad habit I've gotten into, I tend to get serious about the proper use of words, so many people are careless with words to the point that you can't be sure what they mean.

But seriously, do you understand what I was saying, I'm not asking you to agree, just understand.

But that doesn't mean that we can't talk about it, or are you militant about your beliefs or non-beliefs?

Just about the last thing I expect on a forum is for everyone to agree with me, that would really be boring.

That is one of the reasons I don't post on religion forums, I much prefer to talk with people who believe differently than I do.

for·ev·er (fôr-ĕv′ər, fər-) adv. 1. For everlasting time; eternally: No one can live forever. 2. At all times; incessantly.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/eternityCached

e·ter·ni·ty (ĭ-tûr′nĭ-tē) n. pl. e·ter·ni·ties. 1. Time without beginning or end; infinite time.
There is no passing of time in eternity, there is no time in eternity.
How do you know it for a fact?
What is the source, the reliability, and the limit of your 'knowledge'?

How do you define 'time'?

(My) eternal itinerary...to pass the time...that will never end.

As an atheist, I'd be obligated to (try to) kill God (over and over and over...). ;)

Yes, doc, I am on an unholy crusade to save the warped minds of believers from the evil clutches of religion and help them to surface to the sunshine of reason!

(Now, if you don't see that I am still making fun of you, then I won't try it again!)
