America - The Emerging Horror Show
These two excepts are taken from a
David Simon article. It's a short article linked-to at the end of this thread.
Quite pertinent as with what has happened in Baltimore and throughout America now.
And so in my country you're seeing a horror show. You're seeing a retrenchment in terms of family income, you're seeing the abandonment of basic services, such as public education, functional public education. You're seeing the underclass hunted through an alleged war on dangerous drugs that is in fact merely a war on the poor and has turned us into the most incarcerative state in the history of mankind, in terms of the sheer numbers of people we've put in American prisons and the percentage of Americans we put into prisons. No other country on the face of the Earth jails people at the number and rate that we are.
We have become something other than what we claim for the American dream and all because of our inability to basically share, to even contemplate a socialist impulse.
...
The last job of capitalism – having won all the battles against labour, having acquired the ultimate authority, almost the ultimate moral authority over what's a good idea or what's not, or what's valued and what's not – the last journey for capital in my country has been to buy the electoral process, the one venue for reform that remained to Americans.
Right now capital has effectively purchased the government, and you witnessed it again with the healthcare debacle in terms of the $450m that was heaved into Congress, the most broken part of my government, in order that the popular will never actually emerged in any of that legislative process.
Excerpts from:
David Simon: 'There are now two Americas. My country is a horror show'

I've never seen capital in a voting booth, have you?

.
So...the individuals that we vote for, whose names appear on the ballots, they aren't backed by money?
So...the Presidential candidate that has the largest campaign funds, they don't win the elections?
...I know it would have taken a bit of effort but you really needed to read the article. It's a good one.

Why do you post lies and crap on here? The irony is that it's the refusal to allow free enterprise that has ruined things. It's the very opposite of this moron says.

Um, as I said...you really need to read the entire article that is the focus of this thread in order to make an intelligent, relevant post here.
Thank you for trying and again, your respect for me is clear. Any more praise and I will become even more embarrassed than I am now.
Thank you for your responses and your accolades.

Good. The sooner your hell-hole of a country goes completely down the drain the sooner we will have some peace.

Perhaps this economic and emotional attack upon the average American by out of control capitalism will actually serve to, one day soon, finally unite the races within America under a common enemy.
I'm watching the news now. All the pastors and imans in Baltimore, all the politicians, all the do-gooders of well intent - NONE of them will matter.
We need to look at capitalism in the face & realize that we must attenuate it. We must raise the value of being human above the value of profit.
That must happen. And soon. It's going to be bloody.

Yes, comrade, from each according to his ability and to each according to his needs. You know, I'm beginning to wonder why that never caught on. Maybe it had something to do with Stalin, I don't know.
