~ Winning the Hearts & Minds of ISIL ~
America is in quite a predicament IF the United States becomes involved in the opposition of the ISIL mindset.
WE ARE A CHRISTIAN NATION. PERIOD.
Our 6th commandment in our Bible is THOU SHALT NOT KILL.
Plain & simple.
In this framework - We CANNOT, we WILL NOT desecrate our beliefs as a nation in order to oppose another's basic religious beliefs.
It's an illogical, non-winnable proposition.
CAN we, WILL WE, for once, choose EDUCATION and INFORMATION through perhaps technology to defeat this radical ISIL belief system?
Do we believe enough in our basic beliefs - in ourselves, to convince a very small group of individuals that their violent aggression is simply uncivilized & has NO PLACE in today's modern world?
Can you imagine a trillion dollars of education ingrained into the people affected by this isolated group of individuals instead of a trillion dollars of military devastation ?
Have we grown to the point where the first response is to kill instead even to consider education?
Philosophically, is this the correct political matrix that the world faces? Here and in other parts of the world.
Isn't education the best option but perhaps one of the last options nations use because they are overwhelmingly already set-up to use the military-industrial complex?

Dead people are very peaceful, it's the live ones that cause the problems.

Actually no, dead people can become martyrs and they can be a whole heap of a problem.

As usual you miss the point. It's not IS you need to educate, as by 'n' large they have already had such opportunities and have rejected them. The H&M you need to win are the Sunni tribes in the area who were fed-up with the idiots the Americans let be in charge in Iraq and who then treated them very badly whilst feathering their own groups nests. So if you're going to go in and destroy IS then this time you better have a plan to provide education, electricity, jobs, rule of law, good governance and be prepared to stay there for a good while, a couple of generations, until it beds in. But this won't be happening as you're not going to put boots back on the ground, so you're going to try and play the great game once more and its going to turn out even worse this time.

Many years ago, before he died, I was having a conversation with my father and he said that someone told him that in heaven we'd be spending all our time praising and worshiping God. Then he said, "If that's what heaven is like, I'm not sure I want to go there." I must say that if his description was correct, I would have to agree with him, but I would also say that it was only one person's idea of what heaven is like, and heaven probably is different for each individual. Since I'm not pulling the trigger or pushing the button, I'm not too worried about it. Of course you are free to agonize all you want about it, but if someone insists on dying, I can't do more than talk to them, I'm certainly not going to take their place, they'll just try again.

What "Rest of the Islamic world" perhaps you didn't understand who "Them" is?

To the people left behind. A good example is Bin Laden. A better one is Jesus Christ. Another are the Christian Martyrs.

When Joshua moved the Israelites into the Promised Land, God commanded them to destroy everything and kill everyone, they didn't and now look at the trouble they have. The Greeks did it right when they defeated Troy, killed everyone and everything, except those they took away because they weren't under the command to kill everyone, and destroyed everything, they even salted the earth so nothing would grow. Finish what you start, doing something half way only leads to trouble. 'Bean counters' have no business running a war.

The troubles they have now have bugger all to do with whether they'd killed everyone back them or not.

Troy was just a city. Where are the Greeks now?

No but politicians do, unless of course you want to be a military dictatorship. Your solution would just cause a massive war bit given what you've said I guess you're an end-of-times kinda guy so all this is grist to your faith.

The politicians decide, with the advice of the military, whether to go to war, but then it should be left to the military to run the war. When politicians try to run a war they end up loosing.

...wait a minute...a think I said something like, let's try billions and billions of dollars of education instead of continuous military action.
Imagine IF we valued education and worked to provide what individuals do not have mentally, physically, and emotionally instead of punishing & punishing & punishing each other?
What I am hearing is more fantasies about death and war.
Oh well...
