All major religion profess a life hereafter...so why is everyone afraid to die?

Why do all major religions practice killing as a punishment?

Why do we fight over differing beliefs on earth?

Why, in this Christian based country I live in, does defense wash ~75% of each dollar of our Federal budget each year?

Why is the medical industry the largest private industry within my country? - Why do we do EVERYTHING we can possibly do to stay alive yet profess a perfect heaven AFTER we die?

What sense does that make?

Do we believe what we believe?

You're country is fucked BW I'd not ask the reason why, but do or die to defend it, despite waking up. It couldn't hurt. Actually it could hurt a lot, it's a dirty job but someone's got to do it, at least someone who cares a lot anyway, as Faith No More once said.

To put it succinctly religion is fucked in da head, because it is filtered through mankind. It's not a bad thing per se, it's a bad thing per say.

Allow me to introduce you to Wikipedia:

Heaven, the heavens or seven heavens, is a common religious, cosmological, or transcendent place where heavenly beings such as gods, angels, jinn, saints, or venerated ancestors originate, are enthroned, or live. It is commonly believed that heavenly beings can descend to earth or incarnate and that earthly beings can ascend to heaven in the afterlife or in exceptional cases, enter heaven alive.

Heaven is often described as a "higher place", the holiest place, a Paradise, in contrast to Hell or the Underworld or the "low places", and universally or conditionally accessible by earthly beings according to various standards of divinity, goodness, piety, faith, or other virtues or right beliefs or simply the will of God. Some believe in the possibility of a heaven on earth in a World to Come.

Another belief is in an axis mundi or world tree which connects the heavens, the world, and the underworld. In Indian religions, heaven is considered as Svarga loka, and the soul is again subjected to rebirth in different living forms according to its karma. This cycle can be broken after a soul achieves Moksha or Nirvana. Any place of existence, either of humans, souls or deities, outside the tangible world (heaven, hell or other) is called otherworld.

...you're welcome.

As the prophet once said, allow me to introduce you to my wanking hand. ;)

There's no heaven or hell, you are in it now. All there is is this life, suffice to say hf. :)

Because they also believe in judgement. Not everyone is afraid to die, many are afraid of infirmity not death.
Why do all major religions practice killing as a punishment?
Apart from the Christians, why not?
Why do we fight over differing beliefs on earth?
The clue is in the words "differing beliefs".
Why, in this Christian based country I live in, does defense wash ~75% of each dollar of our Federal budget each year?
Because you are very strange 'Christians'.
Why is the medical industry the largest private industry within my country? - Why do we do EVERYTHING we can possibly do to stay alive yet profess a perfect heaven AFTER we die?
Because you also believe in judgement and a perfect hell.
What sense does that make?
A reasonable amount.
Do we believe what we believe?
No, we believe what we believe to be true.

You seem too scattered. Too piecemeal.

Could you develop an overall perspective and then articulate that?

You seem formatory; sophomoric.

Other than that, you did a good job.

Thank you for showing interest and responding
in the best way, at the time, that you could.

Not so, it's just a reflection of your thoughts as that is what I'm replying to.

You hear my overall perspective every time I respond to you.
You seem formatory; sophomoric.
It's where things get done and one has the energy and naivety to believe in change.
Other than that, you did a good job.
Not really working at it.

You say this all the time but its a false platitude.

Try this. Your whole premise about theist religious belief with respect to the afterlife being contradictory with the examples you gave can be explained by the belief that there will be a judgement day and that a hell exists. That you can't see this or even be willing to accept or even discuss it is because you are a gnu who wishes to sound profound and has no intention, or is unable to critique his own thoughts, as such you are a disgrace to the name philosopher and philosophy but this won't bother you either as there is nothing thicker than the skin of a gnu.

You have been calling me a gnu now for years.

I always accept that you are referring to this; Freedom; complete knowledge in an updated package. An accumulated godhead. And that is actually how I see me most of the time. You have been re-enforcing this definition in my mind throughout these many months and I don't think I will ever look upon this title; gnu, in any other way...ever.

Thank you.

Bill, i was after a statement within bible doctrine - not a wishy-washy Wiki conceptualisation.

Arising_uk - What do you mean by GNU?

I dont want a link to deluded people's conceptualisation of what heaven is...

I want two things.
1. a quote from the bible that one must die to attain heaven
2. a quote from the bible describing what makes such a place 'perfect'

I have a problem with most religions, how can most of them teach peace and love but result in the absoute opposite? Their foundations are built upon lies, all they stand for is contradicting through their actions. Religion is merely a means of control in order to feed greed and take advantange of people's goodwill. It's a social institution that's gone a far way in order to control minds, and it's built upon binary thinking.

The first few years of my formal education were spent in a strict Catholic school. I remember my Catholicism teacher saying, Heaven is perfect. Everything there is perfect and eternal. That has stuck with me all these years!

Now, you won't find the word perfect in the Bible, for the actual word perfect did not exist back then.

Same as the direct perfect quote where it is said that we will go to heaven, hell, or purgatory. There is no exact quote or one sentence.

However, heaven, hell, and purgatory are EXACTLY what people believe that the Bible states where you go when people die.

I agree with you - that belief is an association. NOT a direct literal statement.

You're welcome, and thank you for allowing me the opportunity to clarify this important point.

I look forward to more of your content in the coming days.

Quite appositely put, and inadequately responded to may I say on the hole.

The notion of belief needs a little more than shit, it needs a little more... probably.

That said Bw is not a Gnu, he is better than that. He's probably a zoo of animal, which is a compliment believe it or not as humans aren't in it at least.
