Specifically, the situation I have in mind is where two people, prejudiced towards each other, still mate each other. Does love conquer all?

Actually that's a myth. It's people who are similar that tend to be attracted. Just look at how many couple could easily be brother and sister. And yes, I do realise there are lots of exceptions.

She's right, the idea that people who are not well suited because they are antagonistic towards another persons traits is indeed ridiculous. It's like expecting a prude to marry a liberal, or a Muslim to marry a Jew, ah no wait that's not entirely right, they both have the same God, are both Semitic and... :S
It's actually rather interesting, people not only tend to marry people of the same-ish height and build (allowing for the differences of the sexes), but they tend to marry people who share common interests too, are of the same socio-economic background and are hence to some extent their soul mate. If only women weren't all fucking crazy, marriage would never fail.

You're correct, from my own limited experience, 1st marriage from different backgrounds failed after several years, the 2nd from more similar background has lasted 36 years.
PS, I would never say that last bit out loud.

I was referring more to physical appearance but common interests must play a part too obviously, although you normally get to know those after the initial physical attraction.

That's probably because you are wiser than I am.

People who are eager to experience something new and who like adventures can be attracted to people very different than themselves.
Then each day is a surprise and and adventure.
People who suffer from stress and wish harmony and peace and quiet prefer someone like themselves because then they know what to expect.

Perhaps for those people who are ready for a roller coaster with more risk then, it's possible.

Life is not about arriving at the grave in a carefully preserved and manicured body.
It's about sliding in sideways with a drink in one hand and a box of chocolates in the other,
Broken down and used up, Yelling "Damn what a ride!"

Damn right! I think it was Jack Brabham in the 1960's who revolutionised racing car design. His innovation was to build cars that would last the race, but for all he cared they could fall to bits once they crossed the finishing line. No point being a fit corpse.

But there are so many other exquisite meals one can cook and they dwarf the pleasure of eating chocolate.
One just needs to experiment and to find out what one needs to eat in a particular moment of one´s personal history.
If chocolate is what you really need (even if it makes you move like a floundering elephant) then go ahead.
Food and drink should improve our physical shape and our mental well-being alike.
Sometimes you feel that you need to improve your shape but perhaps it is not food and drink that you really need but for instance jazz music from 1940s to which you move like a jellyfish ?

I think you're over analyzing it, the chocolate was an example, like the drink, of living life to the fullest, even if it means using your self up by the end. There's no point is saving yourself, you're not going to get out of life alive.
That's not to say that you shouldn't try to take care of your self, throwing it away is not the purpose, using it is what I'm talking about.

I agree with you thedoc, but the question is "how much ?"
How much is exaggeration and how much is reasonable pleasure or reasonable constraint of pleasure.
Can you suggest a good criterium to decide ?
I used to eat quite a lot of honey because I am slim. I started having a weird feeling in two toes. Could it be the beginning of diabetes ?
I have changed my diet a little (reduced carbs) and the weird feeling in the toes has disappeared.
A craving can be satisfied or not. One always has to decide if it is worth it.
