(this line opens up the old Superman series) It makes me wonder what is the "American way?" Is it to welcome with open arms (over 100 years ago) people who wanted to emigrate to the US? Is it to fight for people's rights in other countries? Is it the Bill of Rights? To get rid of tyrants? Countries that threaten the peace and security of the world? What are the defining characteristics of the American way, not just for now, but for all time?

I think America represented the thrust of capitalism.
The ugly, naked capitalism that needed to produce it's own branding and re-writing of actual history.
Now that capitalism has left America I don't know what we will be or what we can stand for...
