One may well ask , is there such a thing as real money. Perhaps all the currencies of the world are counterfeit, and have always been counterfeit. Perhaps there has never been such a thing as real money.

The very fact that we can ask such questions shows that such distinctions are knowable. For example, live as opposed to dead. Counterfeit money as opposed to real money.

This type of argument was explored by Descartes' Evil Genius proposal.
