Hmm I challenge that seems Norway, Sweden, Australia, and Germany scored higher than the US.

YES.

You are absolutely right.

This picture was taken in America probably in the 1940's.

That was before we were freed of our industrial base.

I think the latest Inequality-adjusted HDI ranks America as around 16th & dropping like a rock.

...and the rest of the world could not be happier.

The intent of this thread was to express a thesis, in one dynamic image, that even when America was #1. ...some of us were transparent and without a voice...

...actually, I just liked the image. It seemed so sarcastic.

Good on you Blaggard

It is good to know that at least some people recognize the world consists of more than just the northern hemisphere.

Bud Konheim has a message for all of the 99 percenters: You're luckier than you think. Konheim, CEO and co-founder of luxury-fashion company Nicole Miller, said on CNBC's " Squawk Box " on Wednesday that Americans not in the top 1 percent would be considered wealthy in most of the world. He said the 99ers should stop complaining and understand how lucky they are.

"We've got a country that the poverty level is wealth in 99 percent of the rest of the world," he said. "So we're talking about woe is me, woe is us, woe is this." He added that "the guy that's making, oh my God, he's making only $35,000 a year, why don't we try that out in India or some countries we can't even name. China, anyplace, the guy is wealthy."

Konheim's comments are sure to provoke the inequality crusaders. After all, here is the wealthy CEO of a luxury company that sells $800 sequined dresses and $250 clutches saying that people who make $35,000 a year should be grateful.

Except he's absolutely right.

Let's see, how about when you made a wrong turn and wound up in socialism.

Lol your a weird little boat on a weird little ocean devoid of real argument, at least 40% of the westernised world maybe more is socialist? America has socialism ingrained in its own system or children would not get free schooling.

Honestly why are you so scared of helping the common man over selfish self agrandisement that accumulates wealth at the expense of others? You seem a very odd fish in a very real world but way, way out of your depth.

Sadly England followed the American model and to this day we have paid in spades and will continue to. In the recession we suffered so much more badly than the rest of Europe because we chose to follow values that were so worthless, when they fell apart we died with them.

Not that I think capitalism is wrong but the neocon self agrandising tea party talking wankers are so far from reality that they are on the other side of the universe. As has been shown and will continue to be shown by the real world, where those who throw tea into the ptomac ( do you see what I did there) never lived never owed and never will agree that they owe a debt to the world they live in that they will never pay. You my friend are not a citizen of America you are a parasite. :P

Yes, you think capitalism is wrong, every fiber of your body thinks capitalism is wrong; but you think it's OK for the government to take money from Joe and give it to Charlie. In your opinion, that's A-OK!

Straw man much do you?

I don't think capitalism is wrong I am in fact a liberal, which means I am liberal on economics, ie regulation should exist but should not be so restricitive it impacts on industry, but it should not be so free it let's institutions like banks run free like stampeding herds.

I am also a liberal more broadly on scoial policy and believe a healthy mix of socialism and conservatism is a good balance to aim for, which is why I think America is often so unhealthy it only has one wing, and sometimes that is so conservative as to reach a sort of nationalist fascism.

Just because you think anyone who isn't on the right extreme of the political spectrum is a communist doesn't make it so. Like many libertarians you want something for nothing, you are isolationist and you don't want to contribute, you feel that your country should not be helping you and in turn you should probably stop sending your kids to school where they are in danger of picking up liberal values, stop paying taxes and live in a cabin in the woods, long beard is optional, which is fine but I think the analogy of a parasite hence is quite apt since presumably you have been feeding on the host for quite some time, using social services and relying on things like the police to protect your property. I suppose you owe your country nothing, in your mind, and would rather not pay anything to be a part of society, which is up to you but it isn't going to make you very popular, your politics are a joke. ;)

Care to address my comment that you think it's OK for the government to forcibly take money from one person and give it to another? That's the basis of Communism or Socialism, my friend.

The government doesn't forcibly take money from people and give it to others so it's just meaningless waffle. I get it you don't want to pay tax because you see it as robbery. Still makes no fucking sense to call taxation communism though. In that case every country in the world with the exception of those who don't have tax systems are communist which is patently nonsense.

I'm not talking about taxation, I'm talking about the government taking money from one person by way of taxes, and giving it to another person by way of a handout. That's Communism or Socialism, take your pick, sucker!
