Hi. I'm really interested in answers to general questions about life. I'm sure philosophy forum users are a much more helpful focus group than Walmart shoppers. (Or any other bad place to ask philosophic questions)

1. What is truth?

2. How do you know something?

3. How do you determine right and wrong?

4. Why is there so much evil in the world? (If you think there is any)

5. Is God real?

1. What is truth?

Fact. A statement corresponding with reality.


2. How do you know something?

I apprehend the world by way of imperfect senses...the imperfect information I apprehend is conducted 'into' me...I 'digest' that information imperfectly...I arrive at a conclusion of 'this' or 'that'.

I become aware of the degree I 'know' by way of how successfully I use the information or experience to navigate the world.

Example: I approach a curb...I assess the curb to be of a certain height...if I assess correctly then I neatly step onto (or off of) the curb...if I assess incorrectly, I bust my ass.

So: how well I 'know' (an aspect of) the curb can be judged by how well I navigate it.


3. How do you determine right and wrong?

What may be 'right' in one circumstance may be 'wrong' in another...right and wrong, then, can be said to be personal preference expressed in a particular circumstance.


4. Why is there so much evil in the world? (If you think there is any)

Eye of the beholder: one man's evil is another's 'good'.


5. Is God real?

Nope.

justified true belief (justification is circular so feel it deeper)

moral or correctness?

society allows it

What do you mean by "God"? But if you mean the theist's 'God' then I think not.

Are you "really" interested in what you say you are ?

I have a real feeling that your statement may not be quite true.

A Walmart shopper could be a truth seeker who needs a break from his mental work and immerses himself in a reality show hoping to get new inspiration.

Based on Bob's post up-thread, I'm inclined to think 'Truth seeker' is really 'Christianity advancer'.

So what?

His (or her) thread allows us each to make pleasant noises at each other.

And certainly: the 'audience' (lurkers) just eats this crap up.

So: put on your taps and dance!

Christianity advancers are also human beings and most of them behave in a civilized way.

I posted what I felt like posting, thank you.

The list of questions looks to me like copied from some philosophy book for beginners.

If a Christianity advancer wants to engage in a serious and kind discussion here on this forum I am all ears.

I wasn't commenting on your post(s)...just sayin' Truth seeker might have an agenda other than what he or she says.

On an internet forum I feel up to all sorts of arguments.

That´s what internet is good for.

I might be afraid to talk to a Christian advancer in real life, but on the internet I feel safe.

To answer number 4; i say greed is the casue. Without money, and greed, there wouldn't be corruption, robbery, and many murders wouldn't occur.

Most people will not recognize truth as they simply lack the mental aptitude for it.

One must know physics, psychology, politics, etc etc, all the modern concepts of life.

It's heartacheingly that so many falls for the demagogues's blatant lies, how many believed in the Iraq war?

If a surgen accidently kills the patient is he evil? No, we make mistakes and will always make mistakes, it's unavoidable. But many do evil, even if it's in good intend because they'r unthoughtful. And good and evil are usually counterintuitive.
Churchill knew there was a coming attack on a small city, but he couldn't warn them and had to sacrifice them, in order not to reveal that they had broken the Egnima code. So sometimes we have to choose the lesser evil in order to do good.

Many are so glaringly ignorent about psychology and all it's horrors, do you know the Millgram Experiemnts and all it's full implications? Sure some know of it, but can't really implement it in their philosophy.

Every year I always see people asking the same questions over and over, fx "what is time" a few times I've linked to the Wiki answer, even quoted it all, but each time it's disregarded and the chat back and forth continues.

..so no, people in general can't precieve truth, they can't precieve it even if it's stuffed down their throats.
