Why does it matter that people die if they go to heaven?

If they're murdered and were a good person then of course they'll go to heaven. So why should anyone be sad or care about people dying? They're in heaven so you should just be happy they're dead, right?

Three problems:
We lose that person and losing someone we love and/or depend on is bad for the one(s) left behind.
The dead person may have been generally good, but was prevented from becoming the best that they could have been, or doing all the good they could have or intended to do, or making amends for something less-than-good they might have regretted.
The killer has now committed a possibly unforgivable sin and thus condemned his own soul to hell, which is sad.

(A fourth problem: Many people who profess belief in heaven etc. really aren't that sure.)

PS bad poll

The question is messed up. It should be "Why does it matter if people live, if when they die they go to an afterlife." That's the real question, and the salient one for any religious perspective that includes an afterlife.

For those who believe in soul extinction, the question is even harder to answer: it's "Why does it matter that people live at all, since after death they don't."
