My thesis for this thread: Man is a lying animal. Our capacity to do harm is directly related to our opportunity.
If we have the opportunity to fuck our entire humanity over for purely selfish, petty reasons...we will.
We are as water. The things we despise are the things we are.

This applies to SOME of us, not to all of us.
Some men and women have attained enlightened-self-interest along with humility. See a discussion of how this is done here:

Some others grow up in innocent villages where the culture is such that the inhabitants wouldn't dream of doing what you describe. It's mostly those who emigrate into large cities who are 'on the make' and who get infected with the notion that money and power can buy them love, when all it can do is buy them - from prostitutes - bodily love (sex) and not the genuine respect and the true-love that they really deep-down seek.
