Trust in one's fellow humans

How far should we stretch our trust in other human beings? Is there some measure as to when we should cease our trust and when we should go ahead with it? Some condition we should be looking for?

Reawaken the instinct within you, VoT... it is far more reliable than one's intellect.

Someone who lied to you twice will probably do it again.
Someone who doesn't return phonecalls promptly probably won't show up when they say they will.
Someone who gave you garbled directions to their house probably shouldn't trusted with your electric wiring.
People don't tend to change all that much.

Trust can be ended when we feel it has been betrayed; when the other lets us down, more than a feeling of disappointment.
The question then arises: when do they deserve their place back in our trust? Especially people we have strong bonds with it can be very hard for us to let go of. And we might also lack alternatives, so we are left with few but precious people.

blindly obey your union master
...oh wait
obey your government master...
...oh wait
but if you don't obey, we'll never get to anarchy and freedom...

Intuition is the best we have.
My intuition can tell me: A has frustrated me so often that I cannot take it any more. My aura (subtle particles around my physical body, my soul) is in bad shape. I need to protect myself and focus on people who are good to me. Then my aura will recover and I will feel more alive again.
A masochist may decide differently.

Intuition tends to be easily fooled.

Intuition is rarely fooled - but it is often overruled. We want to be fair, to be generous, to give someone we care about a second chance... and a third and fourth... even though deep in our gut, we know they'll let us down again. We reason away and second-guess our own sense of self-preservation; we let the other person persuade us of their good intentions; we believe promises that have been broken before - because we want to. Intuition is most often trumped by wishful thinking.
