As I looked at the title of Rick Lewis' editorial, Policy & Reality, the specter of Ayn Rand appeared. The question is, did she portray a reality and did she influence policy?

She certainly made an impression on one of America's central policy makers, Allan Greenspan, Chairman of the Federal Reserve of the United States. As a young man he was part of her inner circle. I think he did subscribe to her philosophy of Objectivism.

There is something going on in the world that will have dramatic policy implications for governments. It is the use of more and more robots (including 3D printing and the Internet) in manufacturing and the service industry. Robots are displacing 'blue collar' and service workers all over the world. The majority of these works will never find employment again. What are Public Policy makers to do?

Will governments tax robots as they do humans in order to maintain a social safety net?

I remember what the premier of China said when asked what keeps him awake at night. Unemployment!

Philosophers should be intrigued by what has been going on in the Middle East, where nations have lacked Public Policy (mutually beneficial social policy) and where Reality is dismal.

I keep reading the article over & over again. Yet, I keep missing the part where you specifically mention the virtues of the Philosophy Now Forums.

...wait a minute...Could you show me where you even mention the Philosophy Now Forums at all?

The closest I get is;

The first way is to write about public controversies and moral issues (such as abortion, euthanasia, education etc) in books, in magazines like Philosophy Now and in newspapers, with the hope of influencing public debate.

After looking at that sentence and the wording of the ENTIRE article...I got the feeling someone copy & pasted a high school report they used from the 1980's.

When you don't even use the word internet or mention the revolutionary Philosophy Now Forums, or the EXCELLENT people we have here? Yeah, there's some bullshit goin on...Who the fuck reads a book in 2013?
