False dilemma. People stuck in the past as if that's all there is. I see shunted growth. Our history of knowledge and thus our future is steeped in the search for the ultimate answers. Can you say, "theory of everything," Stephen Hawking can.

In a strange way, I think your ignorance has proven a point and actually answered a question to the fellow philosopher-members who are viewing this thread.

Perhaps I have stated before, when I create a thread that asks a question I appreciate and look for fellow members to give their best answer.

Oh! And Hawking can't as so far there is no TOE and they're beginning to think that the only one they'll get is a composite of various theories but no ultimate one.

As to the topic, we are here because, we are the, thus far, end result of what the universe is.

In finding why the universe is, in it's entirety, we find the universal/absolute of why we are here, as they are one in the same.
