Mixed race couples........"If you marry that man you will never set foot in this house again"
Do these tensions still exist today with mixed race couples.
Or is it hard to comprehend the prejudice of years ago.
Or, do most people still feel the same way about it, but hide it.

its an issue in my neck of the woods
i mean most people are cool with it but enough are not for this to be an issue - racially mixed couple - specifically white and black couple - will piss off some family members - will lose some friends - and will sometimes get obnoxious comments from strangers
other race mixtures are less of an issue for some reason - and it gets weird too - a white guy dating a chinese girl or a native girl will not encounter any issues but a white girl dating a chinese or native guy will have to deal with above issues

Apart from the Chinese parents objections of course.

I know two so-called mixed races couples. In one case much joy was met at the announcement of the marriage and with each of the 4 remarkable children.
The other did not last, but the fact that it was met with some minor resistance from the 'white' side, the marriage not did last and the 'black' side ended up serving a long sentence for crack related crimes. However the 4 children are beautiful and all have beautiful children of their own.
As for your question I do not think the 'hiding it' is a thing much in evidence in any family I know, and is certainly not some sort of substitute for telling it like it is.
There are many reason for prejudice, race is just one of them. But I've know more resistance from the marriage of a Texan and a Californian.

as far as i know white people freak out far more than any other group
i have never hard of a chinese family getting a man beaten up because he was dating their daughter
there are white families who will react with violence if their daughter dates a black guy

to deal with the above issuess...... do you mean by society in general or the family.
That is interesting. Is it because the male child carries the family name and the family wants the lineage to remain essentially "pure"?

You've not met many Asian or Indian families then.

Sorry, should have been "Not met many Asian or Indian families then?"
As over here many of the ones I've met would absolutely forbid their daughters and pretty much their sons marrying out.
You going to learn to capitalise anytime soon? As if you wish to do Philosophy in college you'd better get used to it.

things may be different here in texas than there are in the uk
i know many east indian and asian families are very apprehensive about their kids dating someone of a different race - they know that texas can be a bit behind the times when it comes to race relations - but i dont think most of them see it as an inherently bad thing
i think most of them think that this may not be a great thing but accept that it is unavoidable

i have been capitalizing and shit when doing my school work
but it does take an extra effort
i find it easier to do proper grammar and punctuation and capitalization and such when i write things out by hand i dont know why

Here in UK, people, by and large, think nothing of it and it would probably even occur to most people to even consider it.
As I understand it Japanese parents have a lot of problem with this

My wife and I are a mixed race couple, I white and she coloured, from Northern Cape
She informs me that the situation in SA is this
White marries black, child disowned
White marries coloured, child may or may not be disowned
Coloured marries white or black, marriage is disapproved of. Indeed her mother initially was a little against me.
Black marries white, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, fatal results?
Black marries coloured, maybe ok
all the best, rantal

I agree that the UK, in the cities, is one of the best examples of a true melting-pot but this has mainly been black and white whereas things are not quite so rosy with the last but one large influx of immigrants.

Not just the cities, in fact integration seems better out of town to me
