the only new dvd i've watched this year, aside from cartoons for my son, was 'Dinner for Schmucks'. my mom picked it up at the store and gave it to me and was just being nice because it's suppose to be a funny movie..

i just set it aside and didn't watch it and didn't plan on ever watching it either, (but i appreciate the gesture from my mom) then i finally watched it.

it was very funny to a certain extent and it's interweaved theme was ethical and endearing. but it enebriated something else as well. i'm not sure if this was intentional or not. it reminds me of a conversation Bernard and i had once on the forum about theatre. to me it sort of did the opposite of what appears to be intended.

one of the best songs i've heard this year is actually an old one that reasonvemotion posted recently. it was Nina Simone and i checked out the sidebars and found her singing 'Mr BoJangles'. i think that is one of the most beautiful pieces of media i've ever heard.

A film

CAFE DE FLORE,
with Vanessa Paradis and Kevin Parent, stunning soundtrack featuring Sigur Ros, The Cure and Pink Floyd.
The film is by Jean-Marc Vallee, the director of C.R.A.Z.Y.

A BEAUTIFUL FILM

I liked Django, the send-up of the proto-KKK was Tarantino at his sardonic best, hilarious.

Al Weiwei: Never Sorry.

Interesting. "He is China's most famous international artist and its most outspoken critic, against a backdrop of strict censorship and an unresponsive legal system. The Chinese authorities have shut down his blog, beat him up, bulldozed his studio and held him in secret detention for 81 days. He came out a "silent" man, with comments to the press, I cannot say anything.

This film is the inside story of a dissident for the digital age who inspires global audiences."

It hasnt been released here yet, in a couple of days. I have a copy on DVD, I am hoping to watch in the next couple of days.

You can always expect the "full on" with Tarantino. I remember when I first saw Pulp Fiction. WTF!
