That would necessitate the religious people shutting up.

The other problem is that many same sex couples are religious.
True, but even if they talk, let them, all that matters will be the legal aspect, that it will be open for those who wish to go along with that lifestyle. Also if a same-sex couple is religious or follow a certain religion then they'll have to adhere to it or take the option of leaving. I say this and it might seem harsh but Religious groups are in their rights to deny certain things that goes against their religion. Putting a separation between 'Church' and legal things or Government matters, will ensure that both sides can go about their business.
Does it look like that is what they are doing?

Yes it does look like that.
Catholics are only one part of the moral majority. Some might not like it, but what the Pope says goes, and them together with the other churches end up telling the US governments what to do.

Slaves and sexual practices. Care to elaborate on these.
I saved some writing time. I hope you see listening as easier than reading a long post.

One glaring part of the church and their sexual mores is telling consenting adults to refrain from sex before marriage.

If this is not enough then please come back with specific questions.

The Pope also says with his actions that protecting pedophiles and not using condoms is a good moral position.

Do you also believe that?

What do you mean? Are you asking if I believe what you say, or are you asking if I think the Pope is right?

I think the Pope is a sick person. He actually stated that using condoms increases the incidence of AIDS - I understand he was force to recant that view - but the damage has been done.
His protection of Paedophiles is on ongoing project for which he deserves to be exposed as a procurer of children to his acolytes.

I'm not sure if you realise that I'm discussing what would be a solution, and nothing on what is currently happening.
