It seems to me that the only arguments for the existence of God come from there being religious texts. It is their existence that is the supposed evidence, rather than their content. Without them, the inexplicable things some people seem to encounter during the course of their lives could be explained by any number of imaginative theories. All religious texts were written by human beings, and we know how fallible, biased and dishonest human beings can be, so, if you must have a story, why not just write your own?
I agree 100% with what you say above, Harbal. That's the most rational approach to religion of any kind that I'm aware of. If I'm wrong and there is a particular "God" out there, then perhaps I'm fucked. But I can't obey every mandate of everyone's God in order to cover all the possibilities of who that specific "God" is or what sort of conduct that "God" wants from me. Fuck it! I'll strike out on my own.
Let's face it, had we not been born into western culture in the 20thC, we'd not be talking about "God" (the guy with the white beard who had a son who was himself, whom he had killed to redeem the sins of the human race whom he created in order to receive the redemption for the death of him,,, urghhdhhss sdakekfuck).
That god, rather than Zeus or the Willandorf Venus, or Kali, or a fucking blue faced baboon riding on the back of a fucking turtle.
or some other shit.

Atheism is the only stance that makes any fucking sense.
I'm agnostic so I couldn't endorse your conclusion one way or the other. But I guess atheism seems maybe more reasonable to me than the belief that a "benevolent" God created this mess we live in. I'll give it that much. We'll see what happens over time.

This can't compete with Frank Zappa.

Pretty cryptic post, AJ. No idea why you're including part of my post in what seems to be a reply to someone else's post. But maybe you can explain the wisdom of your ways?

This is a philosophy forum, Gary. Here we deal in ideas, thoughts, perceptions, about society, about our own relationship to the world. It is not a child's play-pen.

Like the baby in the age-play video you are regressing, and you like it. So why not embrace it? Don't be angry that I label it exactly as I perceive it. Refute it if it doesn't fit.

Do you have some masturbation ceremony planned for today? Do you plan to let the forum know how it went?

We are all, I think, in different ways and in different degrees, part of degenerative cycles. That is a significant note that runs through everything that I write. But the question I ask is What is regeneration? How do we, or can we, turn things around?

What is the proper 'manly' attitude toward our fate? What life has dealt us? It seems to me to be a valid topic.

I'm mostly retired, AJ. I'm spent. I've been through plenty of shit at the hands of militarists and all the rest of the "manly" leaders out there running the show through Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Bosnia, Panama and Grenada. If you want to find joy in degrading me, feel free. As far as I know, I've been able to "handle" a LOT, including taking a pill during a psychosis that I thought at the time of ingesting it was poison--Socratic all the way. You should try "handling" a paranoid psychosis one of these days. Do you think you can "handle" mental illness?

So fire away, AJ. I'm game if you are. I won't even fight back, unless I see you post something extremely moronic (which I have to say, I no longer put past you).

You are mistaken: you degrade yourself. I simply reflect that back to you. Here, you've launched into Classic Gary: explaining yourself. You love that pit!

There are alternatives. They must, at least, be mentioned. Because a debilitating idea, or a neurosis, harms us.

I am interested in what empowers.

So, sob to others here. Immanuel? You available for apologetic coddling?

BTW: What exactly do you wish to "empower" me to do? Is there anything in particular you are requesting of me individually or do you simply want us all walking around beating our chests or something?

It is best if you increase the ways that you can sink down into your pit. I have no *help* to offer you. Jerk it more and with greater fury. Find a butt-pal. (The vagina is really too high maintenance anyway and women's sexual cycles a burden).

The general question is What is empowerment? What does empowerment mean or what should it mean?

How on earth can you justify even the possibility of God= what do you even mean by god?

What we mean by God, is an infinitely superior being to whom we can attach whatever ability or quality we like, as the need arrises, in order to justify whatever claim it occurs to us to make about him.
