Because they are a new industry and currently no-one trusts their quality control or their after-market service but they said the same thing about Japanese and Korean cars and look where they are now. Now imagine reasonable cars being sold new for $2000 and wonder if they'd not sell. Although this is an irony as the parts for many cars are being made in China and they already have cars going new for $5000.
