Better to try to understand the causal chain that produced the circumstances that “brought forth” the phenomenon of Trump and the phenomena of similarly powered political movements in our present, in America, in Europe.

And also to understand the nature of a dramatic political battle both visible and tras bambalinas. The immense power-struggles are perhaps the most relevant while the superficially visible war is chaotic, confusing, hard to sort out and figure out.

Why bother?

You have already insinuated that "we" can't figure it.

Whatever understanding we reach, it's going to fall short of your high standard.

Consolidation of power into one hand could theoretically result positively.

Sure. There have been many kings, emperors and dictators with various personal qualities and abilities. Not all have been awful. Not everything that they did was negative or terrible.

But Trump is awful. And we can expect awful results.

How one assesses that concentration of power depends on what side one supports, no?

That's the amoral, nihilistic assessment. No values, just my team should be able to do anything. Me and my team above all.

You would perhaps support a strongman if that man were enacting policy you believed was right and necessary.

I doubt it.

Many believe, rightly or wrongly, that America requires “saving” and that bold, authoritative action is needed. That is not my opinion it is what they think.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said the Trump administration will not comply with a federal judge’s recent ruling on deportations. She confirmed that the administration will continue to deport Venezuelan immigrants, despite the judge’s order to pause these efforts.

“These are foreign terrorists, that the president has identified them, and designated them as such, and we will continue to follow the Alien Enemies Act,” Bondi said on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime on Monday.

The judge’s ruling came on Saturday when U.S. District Judge James Boasberg temporarily blocked President Trump from using the Alien Enemies Act, which would allow him to detain and deport people from countries considered threats without much legal process.
