No, what I'm trying to say is that the way they feel about wealth is actually properly called worship, and what how we usually use the word worship is improper.Hobbes' Choice wrote:Even the most rabid megalomaniac does not pray to wealth.Jaded Sage wrote:Wealth is an excellent example!

Thanks for tantalizing me to click on the image. I laughed out loud.Jaded Sage wrote:You're witnessing genius.Hobbes' Choice wrote:[img]Obvious Leo wrote:Move along please, folks, nothing to see here.
So are you wanting us to do something about it... or do you have some suggestions on what would be more proper?Jaded Sage wrote:...how we usually use the word worship is improper.

Yes, reexamine. I have already put forward my own phrase.

No it isn't. Not in any sense. Its' simply ordinary greed.Jaded Sage wrote:No, what I'm trying to say is that the way they feel about wealth is actually properly called worship, and what how we usually use the word worship is improper.Hobbes' Choice wrote:Even the most rabid megalomaniac does not pray to wealth.Jaded Sage wrote:Wealth is an excellent example!
And, may I ask, are you abandoning "prayer" in your headlining question?

Rather amusingly, it is Jaded that is using "worship" incorrectly. The irony is rich here.Lacewing wrote: So are you wanting us to do something about it... or do you have some suggestions on what would be more proper?

Re: Reexamination of prayer and worship
I used scripture and sound reasoning to determine how not to use the word.
Re: Reexamination of prayer and worship
This is faulty logic, you are playing fast and loose with the definition of Idol, prayer and worship. Few people, if any, actually pray to, or worship alcohol, mostly they just consume it for fun, and I don't think many people would pray to, or worship something they use for fun.Jaded Sage wrote:If idols are prayed to and worshiped, and alcohol is an idol, then we must reexamine what prayer and worship are, because nobody looks to them in a way that we would normally call prayer and worship. So what are they?

In skimming this thread You're sounding like Peacegirl in her devotion to her fathers book, except that you are putting the Bible in place of Lessans book. Lessans used to claim some unsupported idea was true, and then use that idea to claim some other unrelated idea was proven true, you are doing the same thing here. Paul had his own problems and he tended to project them into his interpretation of Christianity, and he screwed it up pretty badly.Jaded Sage wrote:I used scripture and sound reasoning to determine how not to use the word.

NO FUCKING SHIT! THAT IS MY WHOLE FUCKING POINT! THAT "JUST FOR FUN" IS WORSHIP.
I got my definition from St. Paul, the guy who wrote half of the new testament.

Yes, and the half he wrote was mostly screwed up. As I said before Paul had his own problems and he tended to project those problems onto others.Jaded Sage wrote:thedoc wrote:This is faulty logic, you are playing fast and loose with the definition of Idol, prayer and worship. Perhaps I'm missing your satire, but "just for fun" is not worship in any way that I understand it.Jaded Sage wrote: NO FUCKING SHIT! THAT IS MY WHOLE FUCKING POINT! THAT "JUST FOR FUN" IS WORSHIP.

Dude. Did you even read the OP? I'm saying most people's understanding—that would most likely include yours—is mistaken.
